Happy Days in Florida

I totally forgot to post about my trip home to Florida!  It has always been my home, so it seemed so normal, I didn’t really think about writing about it.  But here is my trip in pictures…

I was on a free ticket thanks to all the miles I racked up, but that meant a poopy connection.  I was prepared for the VERY long flight.  I had all these movies with me.  Forks over Knives was so informative!  We Need to Talk about Kevin was probably my favorite.  It was messed up with an unhappy ending, but I like those kind of movies.

I was starving when I got to Philly, and was craving Chick Fil A… haven’t seen one in Cali yet Sad smile

When I finally made it to Florida after 12 hours of traveling, I heard them talk about Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream on the radio, so I  knew I had to track it down.  Let me tell you, it was worth it!

I also cooked for my mom one night.  I made “Skinny” Chicken Parm.  I baked the chicken and topped it with marinara and low fat provolone.  Then I made a quick side of spaghetti squash with roasted tomatoes and a little parmesan.

We got to go the beach twice!  Once at Juno Beach…

… and once at Lantana Beach.

On Lantana Beach, we ate at Dune Deck Café where I had the best Greek Salad EVER!  Maybe I liked it so much because they had so much feta.

Later that night we went to a great sushi buffet!  I was so ravenous I only got one picture in.

The day I went home, I had breakfast with my dad & step-mom at Nick’s Diner.  I was tempted by the vast menu, but opted for the Bananas Foster French Toast.  I can’t resist anything with “Bananas Foster” in the title!

Appreciating the Good Stuff

It’s Things I love Tuesday Time! The time of the week where I go over the stuff that I’m lovin on this week in Food, Fitness, and Entertainment. Quickie Medical Update: My infection testing came back and it was resistant to the antibiotics I was taking, now I have to basically start all over again with new ones, even taking antibacterial baths and putting antibacterial ointment in my nose. That must have been why my arm was still hurting so much. UGH UGH UGH! Okay, now on to the good stuff.

1. Naan
Pretty much the only times I’ve had naan was at Indian restaurants. I always ask beg for more. To me it’s one of the best tasting breads ever. It’s slight dense, soft, and a little chewy…kind of like the best pizza crust ever. I finally bought some! I might make pizza, or a hummus wrap, or fill it with some curry chicken? Hmmmm…

2. YouTube Yoga
Even though I can’t do any real physical activity now, I still love talking about fitness and all the things I will get back to doing very soon. I’m a total newbie to Yoga and wanted to try to work on my moves before I took a live class. I started doing some research on Yoga on YouTube and found some great stuff! Even if you are a downward dog hater like me, or a seasoned yoga pro…there are some great videos. Many are in the 15 minute range, but you can do a quick morning stretch or watch a few of them. There are classes geared towards all types of interests…like running, flexibility, digestion. My two favorites are Yogatic and Tara Stiles.

3. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I can’t believe I didn’t start watching this show until about 6 months ago. It is so friggin funny! I love how they are sarcastic, rude, apathetic, greedy…pretty much how you don’t want to act in life. But that’s why this show is so good. They are already on season 7, and I’ve been trying to DVR every episode I haven’t seen. I might have to break down and rent some of the first few seasons DVDs.

What are you loving this week?

My Poor Armpit!

Welcome to 3 Things I’m Lovin Tuesday! Sorry I haven’t had a post since Friday, but unfortunately my effed up armpit has been ruining my week. So thats’ why I have 2 good things, and 1 that SUCKS!

1. Mini Surgery (TMI Warning)

I’ll start with bad things first… Last Wednesday, I noticed a painful bump in my armpit. I thought it was an ingrown hair and tried to get rid of it but over the weekend it got worse and worse. On Sunday after my run, It hurt so bad (and was the size of a big gumball) that I knew I had to go to the doctor asap. Yesterday the doctor said it was an abscess (look it up on Wikipedia if you want to puke) that had to be “removed”. I instantly freaked. I started antibiotics yesterday and today was the un-lucky day. The procedure only took about 15 minutes but the first couple minutes were excruciatingly painful because the local anesthesia wasn’t working well. It felt like a huge knife going into my arm (which was probably the case). After the 2nd shot kicked in I wasn’t in that much pain but I felt lots of cutting and digging. Hearing scissors snipping away did not help. Then the doctor said, “Oh, I just found another abscess”. The whole thing was horrible. Now I wait to see what it was…probably some kind of staph infection. Now my wound is stuffed with gauze and I can’t get stitches until Friday, to let it drain if needed. That also means no working out for at least a week. Boooo!

2. Luna Chocolate Dipped Coconut

Now onto the good stuff! This is my new favorite snack bar. I think it’s been around for at least a few months, but I just got my hands on my first one last week. I’ve had them every other day since then. It’s just enough coconut and just enough chocolate, and has the perfect blend of crunch & chew. Just like biting into paradise…ahhh.

3. Game of Thrones

My faves! Khal Drogo and the Khaleesi. He is hawt and she goes from shy girl to bad a$$ biotch!

It took me Saturday, Sunday, and Monday…but I watched all 10 episodes of season 1. It is a tad bit confusing understanding the Kings, Lords, yada yada, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It is an intense show with so much going on. Just the first episode had a drunken dwarf, twin brother-sister banging, and (attempted) child murder. It is intense! The last 2 episodes were my two favorites, things happen I would have never thought a show would do on season 1 with their main characters. I can’t wait until season 2 starts in April.

What’s sucky or amazing for you this week?
