When I found out I was pregnant, one of the first things I did was find out how much I should be eating. As it turns out, it’s more like eating for 1.1 than eating for 2. Basically I’m trying to eat almost exactly the same… except I almost always have dessert at night. My doctor told me not to gain more than 10 lbs in the first 20 weeks, since the last half of pregnancy weight gain is not really in my control. So far I’ve gained 3lbs and I’m pretty happy about that. Here is what I’ve been eating in a typical weekday (note the word weekday, weekends are no holds barred! Hehe).
7:45 AM – Breakfast starts with a green monster. I usually make it with 1 handful kale, 1 big handful frozen strawberries, 1 date, ½ banana, 1 scoop of Sunwarrior Vanilla, and vanilla almond milk.
10:00 AM – Hunger kicks in and I have my first snack, usually fruit and string cheese or a Clif bar. Clif has been winning lately since it almost always sounds more appealing to me than fruit. I love all the flavors that I’ve tried. This one is Chunky Peanut Butter.
12:15 PM – I go home for lunch (lucky to work 2 miles from home) and usually make a salad. This one is some romaine lettuce, rotisserie chicken, shredded cheese, Bolthouse Caesar dressing, and Frank’s! I love putting hot sauce on my salads now.
3:00 PM – Time for snack #2! I usually go for a Chobani with some low fat granola on top. One of my fave things about Chobani is that they have the extra space in the cups for mix ins.
7:00 PM – Dinner is served. It’s funny how that since I have been pregnant, my interest in cooking has waned. The last thing I want to do now when I get home from work is cook. I just want to relax. Luckily, Jay has been in his cooking mood and has made some great stuff! This week it has been some delicious Beef Stew. You can see the bread in the corner of the photo. It was a cheddar garlic bread from the farmers market. It’s one of the best pieces of bread I have ever had! Dunking that bread in the stew was perfection.
8:30 PM – All I can think about at this time of night is chocolate …cookies, ice cream, brownies. Luckily I made these amazing Nutella Pops this weekend. They taste an extra creamy fudgsicle. Here is the recipe…
Nutella Whipped Cream Pops
Makes 6 popsicles
• 2 cups Trader Joe’s House Whip (or Cool Whip)
• 1 cup milk (I used reduced fat)
• ½ cup Nutella
Place all ingredients in a blender. Process until blended, then pour into popsicle molds. Freeze for at least 4 hours, then enjoy.
What is your favorite way to eat chocolate?
Those nutella whipped cream pops look so good! That is such a good idea for a chocolate treat.
They are definitely worth making
Ooh those nutella pops look delicious! Great eats lately, girl!
Thanks Rach!
Oh Natalie!! I am so thrilled for you and your new life!!! Omgshhh is it just me, or does every big event seem to go in waves? Whether it be with friends or in the blog world?!! And man that nutella popsicle looks amazing and so legit…super great and simple recipe!
Thanks Ellie!
Wouldn’t it be so much more fun if it really meant you could eat for two?! Just kidding…sort of. I found that as long as I continued to listen to what my body was telling me I needed, the weight gain worked out just fine- some weeks not much, more others. It all evens out.
I agree, listen to your body, and remember that sometimes your body knows more than your doctor. I gained 12 pounds in one month with both pregnancies…somewhere around 5-6 months. I never ate when I wasn’t hungry and I tried to focus on what my body told me to do, but my doctor scolded me both times. I found it embarrassing and frankly it really pissed me off. I’m 5’6″ and I started off at 115 pounds. I ended up gaining almost exactly 45 pounds with both pregnancies, but I lost it within a few months without even trying. Clearly it worked out for me. I’d love to tell my doctor to kiss off about that. LOL
I like that idea
Yay for fun foodie blogs following pregnancies! Found you through Rach @ This Italian Family, love how you’re adding desserts to your day- that’s all I really did, too, during my preggo days: an extra sandwich a day.
And don’t worry too much bout what number the doc gave you on how much weight is OK- all of our bodies are SO different and if you’re over or under that number, don’t fret! As long as you’re eating the rainbow and feeding your sweet baby well, you’re doing perfectly!
Happy weekend
Thanks for stopping by Nicole! I’m trying to eat the rainbow…some days are hard!
Hello there! I’m new to your site, but it’s really cool and refreshing! Congrats on your new little one! I’ve got 2 boys and I love to run. I didn’t run during any of my pregnancies, and didn’t do any real exercises, so it’s nice to see someone doing the right thing and eating well! I found your site through a cupcake article you posted on FFF. Blessings on your journey & I’ll be checking in for more cool foodie ideas!
Thanks so much!
Can’t believe your doc told you not to go over a certain weight- every pregnant woman gains at different points. So please don’t worry about that!
Thanks, I wont!
What! Nutella pop = a dream of delicousness!
Are you a lot more hungry than you were pre-pregnancy? I already have a crazy good appetite and can eat a LOT, so I don’t even want to know what it will be like when I’m pregnant!
My hunger has actually stayed about the same! I’m sure the bigger I get, the bigger my appetite will get though.
