The main reason I’ve been slacking on the blog lately is that if I’m not working or trying to do chores, I’m exhausted. Why am I so tired… I’m Pregnant! Jay and I are very excited to announce we are expecting our first little bundle of joy, due on April 7th! As of today, I am exactly 12 weeks and 3 days preggo . Only 28 more weeks to go
Now for the TMI paragraph… We were originally going to wait to start “trying” until our 2nd anniversary in October, but we both thought with the timing of us moving to California and being able to live a tiny bit more comfortably, why not give it a go. I decided to stop taking birth control pills at the end of May. On August 1st I found out I was pregnant. It was the exact day Aunt Flow was supposed to visit, and happened to be the day I was meeting my Sis, Dad, and Stepmom in Vegas. I wanted to verify I was able to drink, hehe. I really didn’t think the test was going to be positive. I didn’t have symptoms or feel any different. As soon as I woke up, I took the “2 pink line” test. The line was really faint. So faint I questioned if it was even there. So then I took one of those handy dandy digital tests that tell you “Pregnant” or “Not Pregnant”. I was fully anticipating seeing the “Not”, but it never appeared. I just saw “Pregnant”. I was in shock! I started laughing and crying all at the same time. But unfortunately it was only me and little Bella around. Jay was out of town, and I wouldn’t be seeing him for one more week. I had to tell him ASAP (See pic above). I wrote “guess I won’t be drinking in Vegas!”.
Yes, I was obsessed with that line getting darker. Since I had tests, I figured I might as well use them, right?
He called me back right away. We talked about how friggin excited we were, and he reminded me to be good in Vegas… well duh! We each called our moms to share the news. I waited to tell the rest of the immediate family since I was going to be seeing them in a few hours. Right before we got to the hotel I broke the big news! I said I would not be able to do any drinking while I was here…about 2 seconds went by and my sis said… “I am going to be an Aunt”!
Weekly updates up until now
• Weeks 4 – 7: I was so lucky not to have morning sickness! I basically have sore (TMI again) boobs and get extremely tired, especially after 3pm or so. Some nights I definitely didn’t want to get off the couch for anything. No bump yet! But I felt bloated 24/7. I got several “period-like” cramps (which are still occurring, but rare), which scared me. But they were completely normal! Turns out it’s the uterus having growing pains.
• Week 8: Baby O is super super tiny, about the size of a kidney bean. This week was our first ultrasound! I was nervous and excited at the same time. The ultrasound couldn’t have gone better. The heartbeat was perfect. We had one little miracle.
• Weeks 9 – 11: Baby O was growing at a rapid pace, and so there goes my energy. I felt extra tired those few weeks. I am in no way a nap person, but I napped quite a few times, especially on the weekend. For some reason I found Saturday’s to be my most tired day. Maybe my body was trying to catch up from the stresses of the weekday? But I’m taking advantage of those lazy days! I won’t be getting that opportunity once the baby is born. Also, I had several headaches. One which put me on the couch for half the day. My jeans are feeling tighter now for sure. I caved and bought a Bella Band, but haven’t used it yet.
• Week 12: Baby O is now the size of a plum. One of the good parts is that I have not felt fatigued since I hit my 12 week mark on Sunday. Yesterday, was a big day! We had our NT scan (nuchal translucency). This is where they perform an ultrasound to look specifically at the fluid behind the baby’s neck. Too much, and there is a higher risk for downs syndrome. They compare these results to levels of protein in your blood to fully determine your baby’s risk for downs and a few other genetic issues. The baby passed the tests with flying colors! He or she is an active little booger, not taking time to pose for any really clear photos. But it was so cool to see Baby O kicking and squirming, I think maybe even doing some nose picking, hehe.
That’s it for now folks! I’m so excited to share this journey with all of you. I promise I won’t bombard you with pregnancy posts…. Just a weekly update and some tidbits here and there. I will always want to talk about food
Tomorrow I’ll be posting my finally perfected mac aka (crack-eroni) & cheese recipe for you. Have a great night!
