Sonoma Dreamin

Since Jay worked on July 4th, he was fortunate to get the whole weekend off, yay!  That means one thing….road trip!  Luckily I had just enough points for a free room night.  Wine country was calling our name.  Sonoma was the lucky place to be graced with our presence.  After a 2 1/2 hour drive we made it to the city of Sonoma (the southern part of that wine area) and I thought it would be perfect to celebrate our weekend with champagne.  We ended up at Gloria Ferrer for a glass of bubbly.  They had a great view of all their grapes.

The next winery, which was also my favorite, was Gary Farrell.  It was off the beaten path, but way worth the drive.  They had amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  This was our winner for best wine and best tasting room view.

Our last stop of the day was Hop Kiln, which definitely got the honor of coolest building!  They had some great Pinot too.

The next day was our winery stop at Lancaster Estate, which happened to be our only tour of the trip.  We got to see the baby Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the making.

This won our prize of coolest tasting room set up.

Loved going into the wine cave here!  The night before, they had a wedding here for one of New England Patriots.  Also, few weeks ago they hosted the Real Housewives of Orange County.  I have to watch the next season now just to see them at Lancaster.  But I probably would have watched it anyway…I’m a sucker for reality trash tv.

I wish I had some food pics, but didn’t take any Sad smile  I think Jay was a little relieved that I took a night off of whipping my camera out at all our meals.

  1. This is wonderful! We went to Napa for our honeymoon and didn’t get a chance to check out Sonoma, but it is definitely on our list of places we hope to return to sooner rather than later. Glad you had such a wonderful – and wine-filled – trip!
