The Longest Hike Ever

Well… at least the longest hike ever to me.  I was SO excited!  Maybe since I knew I could eat a lot after I was done Winking smile.  But first you gotta drive there.  I love driving through tunnels!  Am I the only one?

We finally make it to Yosemite Valley.  It is breathtaking.

But the thought of seeing a bear didn’t exactly make me happy.

We went on the Mist Trail, which takes you to 2 water falls… Vernal & Nevada.  Even before the falls there is tons of scenery to see.

I knew it was going to start to get tough, but it really hit me when I saw the huge winding stairs.

The 7 mile trail was supposed to take about 5 hours, so we stocked up with plenty of water and peanut butter sandwiches.  But these little rascals wanted my food!  As soon as they smell anything they are right up on you.  I swear the squirrel on the rock above me was going to pounce on me ninja style to make me drop my sandwich.  Luckily Jay scared it off.

After about 1 hour we made it to the first fall, Vernal Falls.  It was spectacular!

It’s fed my the Emerald Pool.  What a view!

Then we hiked, and hiked, and hiked.  We HAD to make it to Nevada Falls.  1,800 feet and a lot of winding cliffs later, we got there.  It was even more beautiful than Vernal.

Then we made the 3.5 mile trip back down a winding road.  I felt good!  But my legs felt VERY tired!  That night I couldn’t even make it to True Blood. We both fell asleep around 8:30.  Now that was a great nights sleep.  This weekend, we are hitting the Redwoods!  Do you like to hike?

  1. Wow, those stairs are crazy!
what a gorgeous hike! The boy and I have plans to go up to Mt Charleston hiking soon since it is much cooler there in the summer…and they have some falls too.
That squirrel is darling, but I am sure he is serious about his food! ;)

  2. AWESOME!! I want to go here. I LOVe hiking. I try to hike as often as I can. My lovaa and I went on a 12mile hike a few weeks ago and I swear I hardly made it home before passing out.

I’m with you though, the animal warnings freak me out. This last hike I went on there was not another soul in sight..I like busy trails the make me feel safer.

  3. The waterfalls look amazing. Bear warnings… Yikes! Haha and I love the squirrel picture. We’ve got so many squirrels in Canada and they do tend to come to you if you’re outside eating. If you ever come up North to Canada make sure to visit Hamilton, we’ve got a gazillion waterfalls there ;)

  4. Wow, these views are amazing. I love hiking, especially mountain hiking. Once while on a trail we had to turn around and go back because we saw a lot of dogs wondering around. Didn’t want to push our luck. That was quite disappointing.

  5. GORGEOUS! I can’t get over how breathtaking everything looks. Yet another reason why I want to move out west. The hikes are so much prettier than they are here in Illinois…if you can even call them hikes. We don’t exactly have hills here, haha! :)

  6. I love a great hike that ends in a beautiful waterfall! And then, of course, the swim in the icy water in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is just awesome!

  7. Nope – cannot stand tunnels – they scare the crap out of me! I haven’t been hiking in years – but I agree – you do get a great nights sleep after a day like that!

  8. I LOVE tunnels too!! So much fun! That trail is amazingly beautiful but yes it looks tough! I can see why you were out like a light early!

  9. I really enjoy hiking but unfortunately the scenery on hikes is pretty lame in the midwest. We have 1 state park that has some hills and views but other than that your views trump it!
