Marvelous Mexican in San Antonio

As promised, here is my first of 3 reviews from my road trip.  The first “real dinner” of the trip was on the River Walk of San Antonio, a place highly recommended by someone we talked to on the walk.  We walked to Acenar around 9:00 pm on a Sunday night and it was packed outside.  Of course when you’re on the river, everyone wants to sit outside.  We grabbed a table inside because we were famished!  That atmosphere was nice & bright.  I liked it!  They brought us chips and salsa right away and we devoured it!

We opted for an appetizer too.  The server recommended the fried oysters.  They were served on yucca chips with bits of grilled pineapple and a cilantro lime sauce.  These were SO good!  The oysters were perfectly cooked.  The crispy yucca with the tenderness of the oysters was a perfect texture combo.  The pineapple added an amazing sweetness which I would have never thought would pair so well with the dish.

We split 2 entrees.  First up was the Enchiladas Verdes.  Chicken enchiladas covered in tomatillo salsa an jack cheese.  They were good, but nothing out of this world.  I feel like I’ve had better enchiladas for a lower price at other places.  But the beans and rice were definitely above average.

Next was the Camarones a la Diabla.  The shrimp were so frigging delish!  They had a buttery, spicy glaze and melted in your mouth.  It was the perfect complement to the rice, which was very tender and sweetened up with corn.  Great service, great atmosphere, and mostly great food.

Are you a green or red salsa person?  Do you like oysters?

  1. I do like green salsa, but man don’t get in the way of me and my red salsa! Mmmm it might be my favorite food. Yes, I’m calling salsa a food.

  2. I have to admit that I’m not sure if I like oysters or not… I’ve never actually had them! Those shrimp look fantastic though, I do like seafood, I swear!

  3. OMG! by its look it is really mouth watering food. and I love to go in Mexico just to taste those delicious foods.!
