Another good weekend has passed…I ran 5 miles (even though I was supposed to run 8), did laundry, chillaxed, and watched Super 8. But one of the highlights of the weekend was going to Café Jamm, a 6 month old restaurant that features what I would call “Upscale Comfort food”. We got there at 8:00 for dinner, and the small spot had only 1 table left. We were promptly given menus and a basket of homemade potato chips with caramelized onion dip. The chips were crispy and the dip was creamy… and reminiscent of my mom’s sour cream French onion dip. It was just what my hungry tummy needed.
The wine list was short and sweet. They have a smaller selection than most restaurants, but they put care into the description so you make an educated choice. They really take pride in choosing their wines. We ended up with a bottle of Solena Pinot Noir.
One thing on the appetizer menu was really getting my attention… the Gruyere & Bacon Mac and Cheese. It came hot and bubbly right to our table, with the perfect cheesy bacony combo. I loved how the used the shell pasta, so the cheese hides in the little nook. The crunch of the panko on top was the perfect mild texture contrast it needed.
Jay & I decided to split entrees. First up was the Fried Chicken Breast with Jack Cheese sauce. This was de-friggin-licious. The chicken was juicy. The breading (I was thinking mostly panko) was not greasy at all. You would think that maybe the cheese sauce is too much, but it goes so well with the chicken. But then again, I am a total cheese freak. The mashed potatoes and veg (which also came with the Meatloaf) were good, but nothing to write home about.
The meatloaf was also very tasty. It was a big & filling slab of meat. But I probably wouldn’t order it again because it reminded me of a meatloaf I’ve made before (which was also a family favorite). After all this nibbling pigging out, Jay decided his favorite was the Fried Chicken…mine was the Mac & Cheese. Unfortunately we were way too full for dessert (and we took almost half our entrees home). The service was excellent and everything on the menu looks mouth watering. I can’t wait to try the rest of their food!
