Three on the Fourth

It pretty much sucks to be back to work after a long weekend! UGH. But at least I can relive some of the fun by blogging about it. Here are three highlights if my chill Fourth of July Weekend…

1. Good Barbecue!
We finally tried East Coast BBQ, a small place tucked away in a shopping center a couple miles from our house. We ordered different entrees and sides so we could taste it all. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded so service was fast! Here is Jay’s Plate…

Ribs – perfectly seasoned and very tender, not too spicy, not too sweet
Baked Beans – really good! Very different than regular baked beans, not sweet
Mac & Cheese – could have been a lot better, it was bland and not enough cheese

I ordered the turkey, which I probably wouldn’t have ordered normally but I heard it was great. Here is my plate (sorry the pic is horrific)…

Turkey – very moist! I would definitely order this again
Coleslaw – tangy and fresh, exactly what I like. I hate coleslaw that’s doused in mayo
Sweet Potato Fries – so good!! Waffle style just makes it even more amazing, crisp & delish! You can get them with a caramel sauce, which is way too sweet for me. I liked dipping them in the bbq sauce.
Cornbread – bleh, tasted way more like cake than cornbread.

I would definitely go back to East Coast, but I would probably pass on the mac & cheese (unless it improves). I think the best sides are the baked beans and sweet potato fries. Next time I’ll try the pulled pork. A friend once told me “you can judge a good bbq place by their ribs & pulled pork… If those two suck, don’t go back”.

2. Great Movie
We saw True Grit over the weekend, what a good movie! The girl is so brave and Jeff Bridges is a bad a$$ as usual.  The snakes freaked me out.

3. Awesome Beach Time
We are so lucky to live across the street from the beach! This was the view from where we were hanging out. We spent the whole day Sunday swimming, playing volleyball, and drinking beers with the neighbors.

What were your Top 3 things from this weekend?

  1. Haha – I could not agree more about the fries. Waffle cut makes french fries 100x better, make them sweet potato and I’m over the moon ;)

So jealous of your beach time! That was the ONE thing I was missing this year!

  2. Waffle-cut sweet potato fries sound like heaven, delicious! I’m jealous that you live so close to a beach!
    :)

  3. yum, the waffle fries look great. I’ve been wanting to see that movie, happy to hear its good. Now to convince the hubs…

  4. The bbq looks fantastic! I’m not a ribs girl, but your plate looks awesome. My good stuff included hot dogs, beach time, and time with friends.

  5. I love BBQ! Just hand me some ribs or pulled pork sliders and I am one happy girl! :-)

  6. Jealous!! I want a beach across the street from my house!! That’s my dream!
I’m not sure why this is, but mac and cheese at most BBQ places is nasty. It always tastes so “blah” – like grease. And you can see the cheese, but you can’t taste it. Weird.

  7. Looks like you had a great weekend! :) I’m jealous that you got to the beach! I really need to get there at some point this summer!

  8. It looks delicious. Too bad about the mac and cheese and cornbread though. Those are my faves :(

    The beach looks beautiful!

  9. I call the beans “bland”. To each his own I suppose.
