Well…don’t take my word for it. But, I did eat one of these bad boys last night and aced my cardio assessment this morning, woohoo! I think Nutella is the key to my fat burning abilities…shhhh it’s our secret
I made these awesome pockets of chocolatey nutty goodness with the extra biscuits from my Chicken and Dumplings. These are good for dessert..and breakfast…and a snack.
Nutella Peanut Butter Pockets
You will need…
- Peanut Butter (1 tsp per biscuit)
- Nutella (1 tbsp per biscuit)
- Chocolate chips (about 8 per biscuit)
- Biscuit Dough (I used Simply, the new all natural line from Pillsbury)
- Cinnamon & Sugar for the top
1. Preheat Oven to 350
2. Roll out the biscuits until they are about double the original width
3. Spread on the PB on one half of the Biscuit (make sure to leave room on the edges), then add the Nutella and Chocolate Chips
4. Fold the half of the biscuit over and press in the edges firmly
5. Place on baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar
6. Bake for about 11 minutes
When I woke up this morning, I was craving Nutella ready to go for my cardio assessment. Lifetime Fitness has a test called Cardio Point that is used to measure your heart rate and breathing. You strap on a heart rate monitor and put this crazy mask on that measures your VO2 (volume of oxygen consumed) and VCO2 (volume of carbon dioxide consumed). I walked at different speeds/inclines for about 10-ish minutes then ran until I reached my peak heart rate (which is somehow determined by your breathing).
My results were actually good! Haha…I didn’t know what to expect. My VO2 was in the 80th percentile at 42.3 ml/kg/min. Basically, the more oxygen you can suck in, the more fat you can burn. My threshold heart rate was 177, and my base (the heart rate where I stop burning fat as efficiently) is 155. In my “Zone 1” 71% of the calories I burned were from fat. My tester, Christina, said that highest she has seen was about 80%, and that people who have not really exercised can be as low as 20%.
The next fun part was programming my Polar RS400. Christina input all my info, then created 5 workouts ranging from a 35 minute interval training, to a 55 minute workout to maximize fat burning. But the overall goal is to raise my base heart rate so I am good at burning fat even at a high heart rate. I just go for a run (or use the stairmill), and follow the programs on my monitor. The monitor beeps like crazy until your heart rate is where it’s supposed to be. Hopefully that will keep me in check! My goal is to average 45 minutes of Cardio 5x a week. Can’t wait to see how it goes!
What else should I put in my biscuit pockets?
Have you ever had a fitness assessment?

Oh my gosh – WHAT! Those are phenomenal!! I seriously need to make these like NOW.
This is such a cool assessment! I’d love to have my Vo2 max tested. Just curious how much you paid for all that to be done? Message me if you don’t want to say on here! So cool!!!!
And of course–I eat plenty of nutella and PB so I would get those added benefits too, haha!
I’m with Cait! I just showed the pics to my bf and he seemed very interested in those making an appearance very soon! Total genius!!!
I’m really intrigued by that fitness assessment. We just joined a new gym and I’m going to see if they offer anything like that. Like you, I have no idea what to expect for my results.
I’ll make sure and eat some nutella the night before. You know, just to be safe.
Way to go on your fitness test! I’ve never done one before but it sounds interesting. And whats up with Life Time Fitness emailing every.single. day??? I signed up for a free pass to use when I was down there and now they wont stop, ugh.
I’m not even going to start on those Nutella thingies.

Good job on the test!
These biscuits sound delicious. I would use Dark Chocolate Dreams instead of Nutella though. I think I’m the only person that doesn’t like Nutella.
1. Those pockets sound DELICIOUS.
2. That fitness assesment sounds SO cool. I want to do that
I’m loving this post. I’m jealous but happy for you for two reasons.
Have a good weekend!
1 – you get awesome nutella treats (duh)
2 – you got to do that cool vco2 thing
I wonder what my stats would be.
this looks great. catchy title….i wish it really worked
