Sushi Time at Tokyo Blue

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a very good meal at Tokyo Blue, a newer restaurant in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. It was part of my friend’s birthday celebration. We especially wanted to see how it was after hearing several mixed reviews. The hotel where Tokyo Blue is housed is very normal, nothing exciting. You walk into Tokyo Blue and see that they try to be very south beachy…modern, clean, ethereal. But the place kind of looks like a Jersey Shore interpretation of South Beach. But looks aside, the menu was making me drool and I was ready to eat.

We started out with a great bottle of Sake, I forgot the name, whoops! But it was light and had slightly fruity finish.

Our first appetizer was steamed shrimp dumplings. They were light and delicate.

Next appetizer was the sashimi appetizer. It was the chef’s choice of fish, and included Tuna, Salmon, and Escolar. The salmon was the best salmon I have ever had. It literally melted in my mouth! It was a crowd favorite.

We then split a trio of rolls, which was presented beautifully. Here were my two favorites…

The “Chronic Roll” which had tuna, asparagus, garlic, spinach and tempura jalapeno. It was perfectly spicy and was both tender and crunchy.

The “Hawaii Roll” which was a California Roll topped with pepper-crusted seared Ahi Tuna and topped with pineapple. I loved the combo of savory and sweet.

And then we were stuffed! I would definitely return to try more things on the menu. The food is better than the ambiance, and the service was mostly great (except for the end, when it was taking a while to get our check and the manager walked right by us and didn’t even notice our cluttered table full of dirty dishes). Everything we had was very fresh and tasty, it was an lovely meal.
