As we were driving around I-Drive in Orlando, I saw a sight that I thought I would never see again…. a Sizzler. I remembered going there when I was a little kid, but I thought they had all closed. Apparently the tourist area of Orlando is the only place in Florida that has any Sizzlers left.
Jay & I really wanted to go there to eat some breakfast…partially for the nostalgia factor…partially because it was only $4.99. The sis was not too excited, but she went along for the ride.
It was a pretty small breakfast buffet. They had the basics that you would expect for breakfast, some of it looked more appealing than others. I looked around and got a little scared, so I started out with some Peanut Butter & Jelly on Toast. It tasted like PB&J, so that was a step in the right direction. I also grabbed a mini-croissant…which was the toughest croissant I had ever eaten. After a small bite I tossed it.
Next I thought I would try some of the hot food. I went right for the hashbrowns because they were one of the items that actually looked really good. They had cheese sauce (my obsession), so I went in for it, even though there were tongs in the cheese that fell in from the hard boiled eggs that were next to it. It had the consistency of skim milk so I quickly dropped the spoon and moved on. I think that was the first time in my life I rejected cheese sauce.
I had one more plate and then I felt defeated…there was really nothing left that I wanted to eat. There were only so many hashbrowns I could have eaten without feeling like a piggy. Here is my rating of the food I tried, in order from Good to Gross.
Hashbrowns – crispy, hot, tasty
Bacon – very crispy, just the way I like it (Jay made 2 bacon sandwiches)
French Toast Sticks – tasted like Burger King’s, which is not a bad thing
Pancake – if you have to use a knife to cut a pancake don’t eat it
Croissant – hard as a rock
Corned Beef Hash – I would have felt bad serving this to my dog

Ha! I used to love the Sizzler when I was a kid. I thought they had all gone out of business too. I’m disappointed that the breakfast buffet was bad, they used to have a good salad bar though, I wonder if it’s still good?
Hmmmmm….bacon sandwich.
I love the random tongs in the cheese sauce

I’ve never heard of Sizzler, but I’m a sucker for buffets. Thankfully, I’ve learned to control myself around them! ;]

We used to go to Sizzler a lot. I didn’t realize there were any still open either. After reading this if we see one I think we will pass right on by!
i guess there’s a reason that sizzlers aren’t so popular anymore!
I’ve never been to Sizzler, but I remember reading about them in “I Am Charlotte Simmons”! LOVE breakfast buffets.
